How to Balance Being an Entrepreneur and a Mom

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

Working moms have it hard, you desire to raise your children in an environment that encourages women to get a job outside of home. The easiest way to balance both is turn toward entrepreneurship at home. You must learn to leverage everything you learned while being pregnant and after. Skills like these are called the intangibles. It’s the things they look for most in any worker, however this is what separates you and allows you to be you own box.

FLEXIBILITY… I can not say that word enough. This is the main reason to become your own boss. You have a chance to dictate your own schedule. Obviously, this does not mean you have the ability to do nothing, but you can now prioritize the things that mean most to you. Finding this balance is not east but here are some use tips I have learned along the way. Develop a routine that keeps the most important things at the top. When you are raising kids and attempting to start or grow a business it seems like everything needs to be done at once. If you take the time to think about this during your Morning Ritual it will allow you to break things down into more manageable tasks.

You must think about your non negotiables, these are the task that must get done. Add this piece to the start of your day and you surely will make our day more efficient. It will give you the flexibility you are looking for when your day has something unplanned come up. Your routine should also set aside time for when you will work without interruption. If you know the kids take a nap at a certain time or maybe, you have them read to themselves. This is the time you should use for your non-negotiables. Identifying the things that need to get done is crucial and as I said before I can’t tell you how important this is to develop during your Morning Ritual.

Being Realistic

Your non-negotiables and goals must align with each other. If you are heading down the path of being an entrepreneur, the first thing you must understand is you are building the path while you walk down it. You must be meticulous with each action. If you move too fast you will be sure to miss certain things or you will not develop certain Success Habits that need to be maintained. This will be a long road, you will need to create a roadmap of what success looks like. It is important to congratulate yourself along the way. You must remember few people will care about your journey; success is created in the dark alone. You will need to know your own limits. There won’t be anyone there telling you that you are doing too much but there also won’t be anyone telling you that you aren’t doing enough. You must follow the goal which is to balance a business and being a mom. It is very easy to lose sight of this which is why the balance is important. You need to prioritize business tasks but also family time.

The most important piece about being an entrepreneur is being passionate about what you are doing. There are few things to be happy about in the beginning. As you learn to change your mindset to Thinking Like a Boss, a lot of mistakes will be made. Your passion for your project will be necessary to keep you pushing forward. It is much easier to fail at something you love than something you hate. Always remember that failure is not permanent, understand The Magic of Starting Over.

Live in the Moment

We become so consume with our lives that we are constantly multi-tasking. We are doing one thing while thinking about the other. STOP!!!... doing this will negate your maximum efforts. This is the importance of planning out your day. There is no need to worry about what needs to be done if you already planned time to do it. Your non-negotiables need your full attention whether it’s reading to the kids or creating a new marketing strategy. You will have time to multi-task such as when you are making the kids lunch or taking a break for a 15-minute stretch. Enjoy and work hard on the things that require your attention.

Cater to Yourself

It does not matter how successful you want to be or how much of a good parent you want to be, if you are not spiritually able to enjoy everything will suffer in the long run. You must build time every day for you. Taking the time to self-care whether it’s reading, exercising, meditating, or simply sitting in peace. This will do marvels to your mental and emotional state. When you are building a business or holding a family together it requires and utmost amount of emotional energy. If you are spending all your time pouring into everything thing else at some point you will need to recharge. You must learn to be honest with yourself about how you feel. Find someone to confide to, even if it is yourself in the mirror. You will be surprised at the difference between thinking about something and saying it out loud.
Running your own business and being a full-time parent has it’s challenges however if you follow
· Keeping a Morning Ritual
· Small Accomplishments Add up to Big Goals
· You are the Only one Running the Race
· Remember to take time to yourself
These four things will keep you grounded and being successful not only at business but the most rewarding thing which is being a great parent.
